Shell Crest Wall Fountain with Lion Mask Spout

A scallop shell fills the head of this arched back slab, cut deep enough that the flutes hold their own shadow at any hour of the day. Below it a lion mask carries the spout, worn soft at the muzzle by generations of running water, and the whole composition sits over a shallow oval basin. The stone is thickly fossilised, grey where the water ran and warmer where it did not.
